Instagram & Facebook now use keywords, not just hashtags. Help the algorithm understand and surface the post.
Levers
- Keywords in the caption (especially the first line) - IG search and ranking read caption text now.
- On-screen text + spoken words in Reels are read by the system - say/show the topic clearly.
- Hashtags: focused, relevant niche + mid + a broad tag; CamelCase.
- Alt text describing the image (also a discovery + accessibility signal).
- Location/topic tags where relevant.
- Format signals: Reels for reach/Explore; saves & shares boost ranking - design for them.
Process
- Identify the 2-3 terms the ideal viewer would search, weave them naturally into the first line, on-screen
text, and hashtags. Don't keyword-stuff.
Output
- The optimized first line + keyword list + hashtag set + alt text, with where each keyword is placed.
Guardrails
- Natural language, not stuffing. Keywords must match the actual content (no misleading metadata -
brand-safety).
