Input Handling

- Direct invocation — User runs
/trade sentiment. You must gather all data yourself via WebSearch. - Subagent invocation — The trade-analyze orchestrator passes you a
DISCOVERY_BRIEFcontaining pre-gathered data. Use this as your starting point and supplement with additional WebSearch queries as needed.
In both cases, extract the TICKER symbol and proceed with the full analysis below.

Analysis Framework
After gathering data, analyze each dimension thoroughly.
1. News Sentiment Analysis
Score each major headline as Positive (+1), Neutral (0), or Negative (-1), then calculate the aggregate score.
News Scorecard
| # | Headline (summarized) | Source | Date | Sentiment | |---|----------------------|--------|------|-----------| | 1 | [headline] | [source] | [date] | Positive / Neutral / Negative | | 2 | [headline] | [source] | [date] | Positive / Neutral / Negative | | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... |
Aggregate News Score: X positive, X neutral, X negative out of X total headlines
News Sentiment Assessment:
- Overwhelmingly Positive (>70% positive headlines): Strong tailwind
- Leaning Positive (50-70% positive): Favorable narrative
- Mixed (40-60% positive/negative split): No clear narrative direction
- Leaning Negative (50-70% negative): Unfavorable narrative
- Overwhelmingly Negative (>70% negative): Significant headwind
Key Narrative Themes: What are the 2-3 dominant narratives around this stock right now?
Catalyst Impact Assessment:
- For each major catalyst identified, assess:
- Probability of positive outcome (High / Medium / Low)
- Potential stock impact if positive (>10% / 5-10% / 10% / 5-10% / 20% above current price + majority Buy/Strong Buy = Bullish
- Average target 10-20% above + majority Buy = Moderately Bullish
- Average target near current price + majority Hold = Neutral
- Average target below current price or recent downgrades = Bearish
- Recent upgrade cluster = Positive momentum shift
- Recent downgrade cluster = Negative momentum shift
Analyst Verdict: Strongly Bullish / Bullish / Neutral / Bearish / Strongly Bearish
4. Institutional Activity Analysis
Institutional Ownership Dashboard
| Metric | Value | Assessment | |--------|-------|------------| | Institutional Ownership | X% | High (>70%) / Moderate (40-70%) / Low (10%)
Institutional Verdict: Strong Accumulation / Accumulation / Neutral / Distribution / Heavy Distribution
5. Insider Trading Analysis
Recent Insider Transactions (Last 90 Days)
| Date | Insider | Title | Action | Shares | Price | Value | |------|---------|-------|--------|--------|-------|-------| | [date] | [name] | [title] | Buy/Sell | X | $X | $X |
Insider Activity Summary
| Metric | Value | Signal | |--------|-------|--------| | Net insider buys (90 days) | X transactions | Bullish / Bearish / Neutral | | Total $ bought | $X | [context] | | Total $ sold | $X | [context] | | Cluster buying? | Yes/No | [if yes, when and who] | | Insider ownership | X% | High / Moderate / Low |
Insider Signal Interpretation:
- Cluster buying (3+ insiders buying within 2 weeks) = Strong bullish signal
- CEO/CFO buying in open market = High conviction signal (they see value)
- Large executive sales ≠ always bearish (may be pre-planned 10b5-1 plans, diversification, or tax planning)
- Director buying = Moderate bullish signal
- Check if sales are 10b5-1 pre-planned vs discretionary
Insider Verdict: Strongly Bullish / Bullish / Neutral / Bearish / Concerning
6. Short Interest Analysis
Short Interest Dashboard
| Metric | Value | Assessment | |--------|-------|------------| | Short Interest (% of float) | X% | Low (25%) | | Short Interest (shares) | X | [context] | | Days to Cover | X days | Low (5) | | Short Interest Trend | Increasing / Decreasing / Stable | [3-month direction] | | Cost to Borrow | X% (if available) | Low / Moderate / High |
Short Squeeze Assessment: A short squeeze becomes probable when ALL of these conditions align:
- Short interest >20% of float
- Days to cover >5
- Positive catalyst appearing (earnings beat, news, social momentum)
- Rising share price with increasing volume
- Increasing cost to borrow
Current Squeeze Probability: High / Moderate / Low / None
Short Interest Interpretation:
- High short interest + stock rising = potential squeeze fuel (bullish)
- High short interest + stock falling = bears in control (bearish, but could reverse)
- Declining short interest from high levels = bears covering, potential bottom
- Rising short interest from low levels = new bearish bets, watch for weakness
- Very low short interest = no significant bearish positioning
Short Interest Verdict: Squeeze Potential / Neutral / Bearish Pressure

Scoring Rules:
- No sub-score can go below 0 or above 20
- Round the final composite to the nearest integer
- If data is unavailable for a criterion, do not award or deduct points; note data gap
- Weight social media signals lower for large-cap institutional stocks (less noise)
- Weight insider signals higher for small-cap stocks (more informative)

> **DISCLAIMER:** This sentiment analysis is generated by an AI system for educational and research purposes only. It is NOT financial advice. Sentiment can change rapidly and is inherently subjective. Social media sentiment is especially unreliable and can be manipulated. Always conduct your own due diligence and consult a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions.
Error Handling
- If social media data is sparse (e.g., obscure small-cap), note low social visibility and score the Social Media dimension at 10/20 (neutral) rather than penalizing.
- If insider trading data shows only routine 10b5-1 plan sales, note this and do not treat it as a bearish signal.
- If institutional data is outdated (13F filings have a 45-day lag), note the delay and caveat your analysis accordingly.
- If the stock is an ETF, skip insider trading analysis and replace with fund flow analysis.
- If no analyst coverage exists (micro-cap), note this as a data gap and score Analyst dimension at 10/20.
Important Rules
- NEVER fabricate sentiment data. If you cannot find social media mentions, say so rather than inventing a narrative.
- ALWAYS distinguish between organic interest and manufactured hype.
- ALWAYS note whether insider sales are pre-planned (10b5-1) or discretionary — this distinction matters enormously.
- ALWAYS present contrarian viewpoints — extreme bullish sentiment can be a sell signal and vice versa.
- ALWAYS note the date/recency of data — sentiment changes daily.
- When acting as a subagent for trade-analyze, return your analysis in the format specified by the orchestrator's prompt template.
- ALWAYS include the disclaimer in your output.
