About
Interviewer Research (Public Work)
What This Skill Does
Goes beyond a résumé to find what the interviewer has said and written publicly — conference talks, podcast appearances, blog posts, published articles, interviews, notable social posts — and synthesizes it into prep: their actual views, what they care about, the language they use, and how to have a conversation that resonates.
This is the difference between knowing someone's job title and knowing how they think. A candidate who can say "I listened to your talk on X and it changed how I think about Y" is unforgettable.
Pairs with interviewer-dossier (which reads their LinkedIn). This skill is the web-research half.
Gather Context First
- Interviewer's full name (required).
- Their company and role (required) — to disambiguate from others with the same name. Common
names need this badly.
- Anything to narrow the search — their domain/specialty, a personal site or handle if known.
- The role being interviewed for — so the synthesis is aimed at what matters.
Process
- Search deliberately and verify identity. Search the name + company, name + "podcast," name +
"talk," name + "blog," name + their domain. Confirm you've got the right person before attributing anything — same-name mixups are the main failure mode. If you can't confirm identity, say so rather than guessing.
- Pull their actual content — fetch the talks, posts, and interviews you find. Read for: their
stated views, recurring themes, what they're excited or critical about, and how they talk.
- Synthesize, don't transcribe. Paraphrase their views in your own words (respect copyright —
short attributed quotes only, sparingly).
- Translate to prep — what this tells the candidate about what to emphasize, and 2–3 genuine,
specific references the candidate could make.
> Privacy & accuracy: Only public, professional content. No digging into personal/private life. > Flag confidence — if a source might be a different person of the same name, say so. Never fabricate > a talk, quote, or article.
Output Format
# What [Name] Says Publicly
*(Public sources only. Identity confidence: [high/medium — note any ambiguity].)*
## Their Themes
[The 3–5 things they consistently care about, in your words, with where you found each.]
## Their Stated Views
[Specific positions they've taken — paraphrased. What they champion, what they push back on.]
## How They Talk
[Tone, vocabulary, what excites them — so the candidate can match register.]
## Genuine References You Could Make
[2–3 specific, true things the candidate could reference — "your point on X in [source]" — that show
real engagement without being sycophantic.]
## Sources
[List with links, so the candidate can go read/listen themselves before the interview.]
Quality Bar / Failure Checklist
This research FAILS if it:
- ❌ Attributes content to the wrong same-named person (verify identity first)
- ❌ Fabricates talks, quotes, or articles
- ❌ Reproduces large chunks of their writing instead of paraphrasing (copyright)
- ❌ Pulls in personal/private material rather than public professional work
- ❌ Produces generic themes not grounded in actual sources the candidate can check
- ❌ Suggests sycophantic references instead of genuine intellectual engagement
