Method
- Know the budget cycle and get in early, before allocations harden
- Tie every ask to a funded strategic priority
- Quantify the need: demand vs current capacity, with the gap
- Bring options (good/better/best), not an ultimatum
- Line up sponsors before the decision forum
- Show what you'll stop doing if you don't get it
Best Practices
- Resourcing is decided in relationships and timing, not just merit
- A funded priority with no design capacity is your strongest lever
- Win a sponsor who'll argue for you when you're not in the room
