Trigger

This skill activates when the user runs:

  • /crypto fundamental (e.g., /crypto fundamental ETH, /crypto fundamental ARB)
  • Also invoked as a subagent during /crypto analyze

Input Processing

  1. Parse the token ticker from the command
  2. Normalize to project name (e.g., "ETH" -> "Ethereum", "SOL" -> "Solana", "ARB" -> "Arbitrum")
  3. Detect the project category for analysis focus:
  • Layer 1 -> Focus on: scalability trilemma, validator economics, ecosystem growth, dev activity
  • Layer 2 -> Focus on: sequencer revenue, L1 relationship, rollup type, TVL capture
  • DeFi -> Focus on: protocol-market fit, revenue model, governance maturity
  • Infrastructure (Oracles, Indexing, Storage) -> Focus on: demand drivers, node economics, integration count

Use WebSearch and WebFetch to gather from these sources:

2. CoinGecko/CoinMarketCap — Fundamentals page, categories, historical data
3. Messari (if available) — Research reports, project profiles
4. GitHub — Repository activity, commit frequency, contributor count
5. Crunchbase / PitchBook summaries — Funding rounds, investor profiles
6. Electric Capital Developer Report — Developer activity rankings
7. DeFiLlama — For DeFi-related fundamentals (TVL, revenue, fees)
8. Token Terminal — Revenue, active users, core metrics
9. Governance forums — Snapshot, Tally, Commonwealth
10. Social channels — Discord member count, Twitter followers, Telegram size
11. Dune Analytics — On-chain adoption metrics
12. News sources — Recent announcements, partnerships, regulatory developments

Phase 2: Collect These Specific Metrics

Project Thesis & Problem:

  • What problem does the project solve?
  • Is the problem real and significant? (TAM - Total Addressable Market)
  • How does the project solve it differently from existing solutions?
  • Is the solution crypto-native or could it work better without a token?
  • Does the token have genuine utility or is it primarily speculative?
  • Product-market fit evidence (real users, real revenue, or still aspirational?)

Team & Leadership:

  • Founders: names, backgrounds, previous projects, reputation
  • Core team size (full-time contributors)
  • Team track record (previous successful projects, exits, failures)
  • Key departures or controversies
  • Advisors and their relevance/engagement
  • Team transparency (doxxed vs anonymous)
  • Team token holdings and vesting schedules
  • Evidence of continued active development

Technology & Architecture:

  • Technical approach (what makes it different architecturally?)
  • Consensus mechanism (PoS, PoW, DPoS, BFT variant, etc.)
  • Scalability solution (sharding, rollups, parallel execution, etc.)
  • Programming language and developer experience
  • Interoperability and cross-chain capabilities
  • Technical risks and known limitations
  • Open source status and code quality
  • Innovation vs fork (original technology or modified fork?)
  • Technical roadmap (what's being built next?)

Partnership Ecosystem:

  • Major partnerships (distinguish announcements from live integrations)

Fundamental Score Calculation (0-100)

Calculate across 5 equally-weighted dimensions:

1. Project Viability (0-20 points)

SCORING CRITERIA:
- Problem significance and TAM
- Solution quality and crypto-native necessity
- Product-market fit evidence
- Revenue model sustainability
- Regulatory viability

18-20: Solving a massive, proven problem; strong PMF with real revenue; clear crypto necessity
14-17: Good problem/solution fit, growing PMF evidence, viable revenue model
10-13: Reasonable thesis but PMF not yet proven, revenue model nascent
6-9:   Thesis is weak or problem isn't well-defined, no clear PMF, unclear revenue path
0-5:   No real problem solved, no PMF, token has no genuine utility, or regulatory dead-end

2. Team Quality (0-20 points)

SCORING CRITERIA:
- Founder track record and reputation
- Team depth and expertise
- Team transparency and communication
- Advisor quality and engagement
- Retention (key departures = red flag)

18-20: Elite team with proven track record, deep bench, fully transparent, active advisors
14-17: Strong team with relevant experience, mostly transparent, good advisors
10-13: Competent team but limited track record, some transparency, average advisors
6-9:   Unknown team, anonymous with no reputation, thin bench, poor communication
0-5:   Team red flags (anonymous with sketchy history, key departures, fraud allegations)

3. Technology (0-20 points)

SCORING CRITERIA:
- Technical innovation and differentiation
- Code quality and developer experience
- Scalability and performance
- Security architecture
- Open source status and community contributions
- Development velocity (GitHub activity)

18-20: Genuinely innovative tech, excellent DX, high dev activity, open source, secure architecture
14-17: Solid technology with meaningful differentiation, good dev activity, active codebase
10-13: Competent tech but limited innovation (fork or incremental improvement), moderate dev activity
6-9:   Largely derivative tech, low dev activity, limited differentiation
0-5:   No meaningful technology, abandoned codebase, or critical technical flaws

4. Adoption (0-20 points)

SCORING CRITERIA:
- User growth trajectory (DAU/MAU)
- Transaction volume and value
- Revenue and fee generation
- Developer ecosystem health
- dApp ecosystem quality and diversity
- TVL and protocol usage metrics

18-20: Strong user growth, meaningful revenue, thriving developer ecosystem, top dApps building here
14-17: Growing user base, some revenue, healthy developer community, good dApp ecosystem
10-13: Early adoption with potential, limited revenue, nascent developer community
6-9:   Minimal real usage, negligible revenue, few developers building
0-5:   Ghost chain/protocol — near-zero users, no revenue, dead developer community

5. Competitive Moat (0-20 points)

SCORING CRITERIA:
- Market position within category
- Network effects and switching costs
- Brand and community strength
- Ecosystem lock-in (developers, liquidity, integrations)
- Defensibility against well-funded competitors

18-20: Category leader with strong network effects, high switching costs, deep ecosystem lock-in
14-17: Top 3 in category, meaningful moat, strong brand, loyal community
10-13: Mid-tier competitor, some differentiation, growing but vulnerable to larger players
6-9:   Weak competitive position, easily replaceable, limited brand recognition
0-5:   No meaningful moat, commoditized offering, losing to competitors on every metric

Composite Fundamental Score

Fundamental Score = Project Viability + Team Quality + Technology + Adoption + Competitive Moat

Grade Scale:
85-100: A+ | Exceptional Fundamentals — blue-chip crypto, strong on every dimension
70-84:  A  | Strong Fundamentals — few weaknesses, compelling long-term thesis
55-69:  B  | Decent Fundamentals — some strengths offset by gaps
40-54:  C  | Mediocre Fundamentals — significant weaknesses, thesis not yet proven
25-39:  D  | Weak Fundamentals — major concerns across multiple dimensions
0-24:   F  | Poor Fundamentals — critical red flags, no compelling thesis

Token Utility Assessment

For every fundamental analysis, evaluate the token's actual utility:

TOKEN UTILITY FRAMEWORK:
1. ESSENTIAL: Token is required to use the protocol (gas, staking, access)
   -> Strong utility, organic demand driver
2. GOVERNANCE: Token provides voting rights on protocol decisions
   -> Moderate utility, depends on governance activity and value of decisions
3. VALUE CAPTURE: Token captures protocol revenue (fee sharing, buyback/burn)
   -> Strong if revenue is meaningful; weak if revenue is negligible
4. SPECULATIVE: Token has no utility beyond price speculation
   -> Weakest case — entirely dependent on narrative and momentum
5. SECURITY: Token secures the network (PoS validators, node operators)
   -> Strong utility if network has real usage; weak if network is underutilized

RATE: Does the token NEED to exist? Could the project work without it?
If the project could function identically without the token, that's a fundamental weakness.
