Method
- Describe each level as observable behaviours, not adjectives
- Make the IC and manager tracks equally valued
- Anchor with examples of work at each level
- Use it consistently in reviews, promotions, and hiring
- Calibrate across managers to keep the bar even
Best Practices
- Levels describe scope and impact, not tenure
- Promotion recognises sustained operation at the next level, not a one-off
- Keep IC paths as prestigious as management paths
